What would it cost for a single man to travel in Malaysia and Thailand per day?

Written by admin on March 18th, 2009

I'm looking at taking a trip to SE Asia and am curious about the cost of travel for a 10 day to 2 week trip both in and out of the capitals and in rural areas.

Thx in advance.

$40 to $50 a day. Price doesn't include entertaining a young lady.

Malaysia and Thailand do not differ too much in the cost of accommodation.
Very basic arrangements would set you back approx. 7 USD/day. For more pleasant accommodation, the price ranges from twice as much upwards.
Eating, too, can be very cheap: between 6 and 12 USD/day.
Transportation can vary: in Bangkok, taxis are cheaper than anywhere else (the initial fare is 1 USD up to the first 2 km), while in Malaysia they tend to be pricier. Public transport is generally very affordable (the highest bus fares in Bangkok are around 50 US cents).
Add to that internal transport (buses? aeroplanes?), and you get a fair idea of what your daily budget should look like.
For air transfers in Malaysia, Thailand and between the two, take a look at http://www.airasia.com, which usually has the best deals with good service.
