is it safe for a single woman to travel to naples?

I am going to Italy alone and want to go to naples but is it safe for a woman traveler?
Like any city in the world, there are places no one should to alone, but women are at no particular risk at virtually all the places you would want to see: Vesivus, Hurculaneum, Capidimonte, Capri, National Museum, lots of other places. Send me an e-mail if you'd like recommendations.

Lived there three years.
i went by myself, it is partly true what you hear that it is a bit dangerous, especially around the train station. it is not a very nice city, but obviously the best base to visit pompei..

Naples is a bit dangerous. I was the subject of a scooter bandit there. If you want to visit Pompei, rather than stay in Naples why not stay across the bay in Sorento. Beautiful small town on cliffs. If you have been on the road a long while and want a break in English, there is an American expat club there.
